The Marvin Duchow Music Library and the Schulich School of Music are pleased to announce the publication of an exciting new book, Formal Functions in Perspective, edited by Steven Vande Moortele, Julie Pedneault-Deslauriers, and Nathan John Martin (Eastman Studies in Music, University of Rochester Press).
This collection of essays, dedicated to Professor William Caplin, develops, extends, and responds to, his “theory of formal functions” by exploring processes of musical form in a wide variety of styles and genres.
The book has special significance for McGill University in that eleven of the contributors (Brian Black, Andrew Deruchie, Steven Huebner, Nathan John Martin, François de Médicis, Christoph Neidhöfer, Julie Pedneault-Deslauriers, Giorgio Sanguinetti, Janet Schmalfeldt, Peter Schubert, and Steven Vande Moortele) have direct connections to the Schulich School of Music either as professors or former students.
Please join us in launching a publication that attests to the strongly collaborative spirit of the Schulich School of Music. We will hear brief comments from the three editors, along with remarks by Janet Schmalfeldt, who wrote the Afterword to the collection. You will also have the opportunity to purchase your own copy of the book from an onsite representative of Paragraph Bookstore. Refreshments will be served.
