Dear Musical Chair-iots! 😊
We are nearing the half-way point of the festival and it is time to start thinking about the programming of the Friday evening and Saturday morning “marathon” concerts. Some of you have expressed preferences/conflicts for one of the two dates; Devon has taken note of them (Groups K, P and S), but if we’ve missed something, let us know, so nothing falls between the cracks! |
We realize that the week goes by quickly, and that the repertoire ideally demands much more time than you have had to devote to it. Any group that feels prepared to play the entire piece they have rehearsed is encouraged to do so, but if some groups would prefer to play one or a selection of movements, this is also fine. The two marathon concerts are more informal than other scheduled performances and it is understood that groups are presenting work that is the result of a short rehearsal process!
By Wednesday, May 22 at 17:00, we’d like to hear from all the groups who will perform on Friday night or Saturday morning. Please have one person from your group email events.music@mcgill.ca. We’d like to know:
- Do you have a conflict with either one of the concert dates?
- Will you be playing the entire piece, or a selection of movements (and if so, what movements) ?
- What would you like your group to be called? (This is a fun thing!!)
Though we know you may have grown attached to your alphabetical group name (😉), we encourage you to pick something new – and that might capture something special about your group/piece/time together during Musical Chairs.
If you need a bit of extra inspiration to get the wheels turning, you can use this year’s colour – purple! (One edition, every group name was inspired by the colour green, and it was so successful we’re bringing it back!)
From amethyst to plum, and everything in between (Iris! Magenta! Lavender!), there’s something right for your ensemble, we know it. You can even think more out of the box with what purple might evoke (Royalty? Opulence? Fields of heather? Baked goods?). Have fun! No need to be a shrinking violet – we know the names will be great! 😊
